a friend of mine directed me to this website, and i have to admit that its a wealth of information about macs. i was going to be a new mac user, with a new MBP. I recently purchased it from my neighborhood apple store, but after my friend showed me this website, i realised how bad these macbook pro machines are. the forums are filled with people having tons of problems with the machine.

i also read somewhere that 50% of these machines will have lots of defects. my macbook pro has been running fine without any issues for a week, but i am scared that if a problem comes up, i wont be able to return it. so i am thinking of returning it right now, and buy it when the problems have been fixed by apple.

a mac using friend of mine told me that apple computers are really of high quality, and the users wont have to bother with issues that PC users face... since macs are pretty fault tolerant.... well, it seems that apple has skipped out on this one. He insists that i keep the machine because its not exibhiting any issues, but after paying 3000 bucks, I dont want to deal with several issues after 14days...

so can anyone please tell me when would the next version of the macbook pros be released so that i can buy it then?

again, great website, and thanks!

Dude...are you serious? Don't let the forums scare you.

The SR MBP's are a little higher than normal with their problems, but I wouldn't let that deter you. If you have to get something repaired, so be it.

HAHAAHHAAHAHA are you serious? Have you tried to use VISTA????

LOL, this has gotta be one of the dumbest threads I have come across in a long time!

It has lots of problems if you count the guy that was upset that the lid was one micron offcenter or the other guy who was upset that he had a microscopic scratch on the bottom, or the other five guys who think they should be able to see the screen perfectly from an 80 degree angle.

It sounds like OP doesnt like to own an expensive piece of electronics at all, because every brand will have the same issues, perhaps he should have bought a $300 unit from tigerdirect so he doesnt have to worry so much when it falls apart like every physical object ever made has done and will do.

As others have speculated, we probably won't see an upgrade until Nov.-Jan.

But seriously, there is not one company on the planet that produces products at a 100% perfection rate. The thing about Apple is they love their products as if they were thier children. And they really care about their customers satisfaction. So even on the unlikely off chance that your MBP does develop problems, have no fear, you are part of the Apple family and they'll take care of you.

Oh my god.

90% of the people who buy MBPs or any other Apple product have absolutely no problems and love their purchase. You can't expect to come to a forum and see "MY PRODUCT IS PERFECT", because people who aren't having problems aren't going to take the extra time (usually) to post that. On the flip side, people who are having problems will.

I've had no problems with my machine. Zero. Returning something because something could potentially be flawed, even though you've noticed nothing yet, is really ridiculous. You might as well never buy anything.

Edit: dsheli is my new favorite person. ;p

There is a huge potential for a problem to come up... since 50% of the macbook pros have issues.

Please go return it to the store and tell them there's nothing wrong with yours, this is why you're returning it and that you heard it on the internet.

If you bought a car and then someone in a bar told you that 50% of that make of car have defective brakes, would you automatically take back it to the car dealer?

Maybe you would ask other people in that bar what they thought... or you could do a bit of research.

Further to what other posters have said, although there is a wealth of information here, some of it isn't useful and some of it is just plain wrong - just like you will find with just about every forum.

I would strongly advise you to have a look at sites like macintouch.com or macfixit.com - both these sites have daily reader reports about experiences/problems that they've encountered. More importantly, they have editorial control and have a more consistent and sober approach to issues.

Very recently, there were two separate threads about unsafe magsafe power adaptors - certainly this is something you would be concerned about if you were affected. However, this make of magsafe was phased out by Apple approximately eight months ago, but the threads didn't adquately reflect this... leading to a number of worried posters concerned that they had an unsafe product when they didn't. Of course, some good did come out of it, but it's very easy to get the wrong impression about how serious a problem is in terms of the number of units affected.

This is madness. All computers go wrong and I doubt whoever said 50% was telling the truth at all. It sounds like someone plucked a figure out of the air. If it was true it'd be an appauling problem that probably would have made its way onto main stream media by now.

I have had my Macbook Pro for about 6 weeks now, without a single problem, the machine was in perfect working order with no faults when I bought it and it has stayed that way.

I benefitted from educational discount so got the 3 year apple care just incase but I doubt I'll ever need to use it.

I am not a mac nut as this is only my second mac and I've generally had a PC aswell as a mac (until now as I've made the full switch to OS)

I say keep your machine and deal with the falibility of technology as one person on here said.... do you not go outside because you might be hit by a bus?

Add another point to the "grow some balls" team.

While I can also understand the trouble of purchasing a very expensive piece of computer equipment. I'm going to have to say this:

+1 for balls.

I had to find mine, but not because I was worried about it breaking or having problems, but because it is plenty of cash to drop, even if I have it in hand. LOL, hopefully I'll be in that 'lucky' 50% without problems

To the OP, understand that more people are posting with problematic MBPs... If everyone who had a good MBP posted you'd see a lot more posts about perfect machines. I'd say I'm one of the lucky ones, and so is my friend, we both bought our MBPs from the Apple Store (in two different cities) and they're both perfect.

Give the OP a break. Obviously, he was concerned and got some bad information. He came to MacRumors to get the right information, not to be joked upon.

From a non-noob standpoint, his comments are ridiculous, but owell, there are plenty of ridiculous remarks on this forum. Just tell him to keep his MBP and move on with life.

How about everyone who has a MBP with very little to no problems at all post. I will start off.

My 17" high res. is an absolute beauty! I love it and haven't had a problem with it yet (been over a month). Everything about it is wonderful. If yours is working fine, I'm sure it will be fine throughout it's long lived life. This is by far the best $3k I have ever spent in one place.

I honestly think a lot of people are pulling out the extra fine toothed comb and raking over every mm² of their machine, inside and out. Now, granted there are problems out there, but they aren't going to be as wide spread as this forum makes them seem.

This is a joke

Hey everyone,

Don't take this too seriously--it's a joke for Pete's sake.

It's a pretty good one, though, about how people can get a little too wound up by what they see in these forums.

Notice the OP is a newbie user starting from today, with just two posts, in this thread. Hmmmmmm...

The following, however, is a dangerous distortion:
I think 72% of facts in the forum are 43% accurate 12% of the time
;)

well, the OP doesn't seem to be talking much now. I think everyone scared him off...

truth be told, i think it's a bit ridiculous too.

This clown makes me embarrassed to be from Texas...And I thought that there would NEVER come a time when I would say that...

There will ALWAYS be problems with any product line you buy. It's just the process, if your mac doesn't have any problems then it doesn't. Previous macs and future macs aren't going to be 100% perfect in production either, QA will only qualify a percentage of what is produced so something will always get through. Also most of the postings on forums are going to be complains and problems, rarely do people go out and say how perfect their mac is.
