purchased November 29 2019 and battery cycle is 177 for my MacBook Pro 16.
is it too much? I usually don't use it on plug. does it effect being this high?

That's where it should be if you used your 10 hour battery around 4-6 hours a day. You've used 16 cycles per month. That gives you 62 months to hit 1000 cycles. Sounds hunky-dory.

The battery is there to be used, not sit idle. I, personally, would not switch to keeping it plugged in in favor of saving cycles. Or if you do, turn on the Catalina Battery Management or another 3rd party battery app so you aren't wearing it out with constant topping up.
