So I bought an AW off CL... long story short, some guy was selling his because he just didn't like it. Because it was open and used, he sold for retail. I didn't mind at all. Looks brand new to me lol.

I'm trying to look into getting Apple Care but it states I need proof of purchase:

"At an Apple Retail Store (inspection of Apple Watch and proof of purchase are required)

OR call (800) 275-2273 (requires you to run a remote diagnostic and provide proof of purchase)"

I didn't even think to ask for the receipt. Bummer. Any way around this or should I email him asking for a copy of the receipt?

I added Applecare to a Watch at the store yesterday and they didn't bother looking for proof of purchase. They just scanned in the serial number and charged me 74 bucks for AC+.

My iPad purchased at Best Buy was already in their system with a sale date. The serial number will show Apple when it was sold. They are more interested in making sure something isn't 6 months old.

If you bought it at retail price you got a hell of a deal. Hardly any are selling for less than a $100 premium on CL.

You shouldn't need proof of purchase. It's a genuine Apple product and in your possession. At the most they inspect it for a minute and then charge you. For my mobile devices I always buy AppleCare after a week or so of receiving my device.

Just call or chat and give them the serial number. The only caveat to this is that Apple may register the apple care to the original owner's personal info, address, phone etc.. Doesn't affect the warranty in any way. You can still make a claim on it no questions asked. It's just the red tape in the way of putting it in your name unless the seller has done this for you.

Just plug the serial into device check. It's so new that they would have no reason to think its out of warranty or registration date which is a year.

They don't ask for proof of purchase. They only need the serial number to register. I went in and out of the Apple Store all within 10 minutes.
