I have the D50 and a really nice Sigma 18-200mm lens (f/3.5 - 5.6), which both together cost me around $875. (The Sigma was about $300.)

There's also now a Sigma 18-200mm OS lens (which is Sigma's version of image stabilization) which I believe costs around $550.

In your case, I'd definitely go after the D80 (which I may upgrade to eventually myself, after I buy my new Mac...)

Re: lenses for the K10D-

the kit 18-55 is actually a really, really nice lens. I was impressed. Usually i hate kit lenses.

As far as getting some new lenses, anything K or KA mount will fit. If you are a fan of autofocus, then I recommend the SMC-P DA 50-200mm f4-5.6. Very nice lens, nice and small, good range, and it works really well with the camera. Affordable, too, since it doesn't try to extend beyond a reasonable range- these can be had for about $200.

Definitely one of the best dSLR buys on the market today.
