Purchasing Apple store gift card

Hey guys,

If I purchase an Apple store gift card (via the Apple store app) and email it to a friend.

Can he then use it to buy a MacBook? Or is the Apple store gift cards only for iTunes and games?

He can use it to buy a MacBook. I used one last year to pay for part of one.
