Hello all! Long time MacRumors.com reader... FIRST time poster on here. Just wondering about some purchasing options for a Christmas gift for my girl. I want to get her an iPhone but don't know where to start. She has AT&T (Cingular phone and GSM Chip) and I want to know what type of phone to look out for. Unlocked? AT&T only? Used? New? Just buy it from AT&T? Where should I start? I would ideally want it to be "drag and drop" with her current SIM Card. I do know that she would have to activate the iPhone data plan though so she can take advantage of all the features. Help! Thanks... :apple:4Life!

Here's the deal it's very easy. If you have an apple store near you I would go thier to buy the phone if not AT&T will do. Since she has AT&T once you get the iphone home you will plug it into itunes. Here comes the important part. Make sure you chose you are already a AT&T customer and not setting up a new account. It will take you through the set up process from there you will chose a iphone rate plan and your phone number will be ported over to the iphone. You will not be able to use the sim card you have now but you really don't need it once you activate the iphone. Since your already with AT&T there is no reason to go the unlocked route and I would buy new or refurb from apple. It is sometimes difficult to get warrenty service or other service from apple if you are not the original owner. Good Luck.::cool:
