If I purchase a new iPhone, can I still use my 3G as an iPod touch? would I still be able to download apps, etc. Just curious.

You can, but the moment you update the software it'll need to be unlocked again. So if you plan to use it in such a fashion I would look into jailbreaking it.

Really?

So when I get the new iPhone this summer I'll need to unlock my iPhone each time or jailbreak it? Can't Apple or AT&T take care of this at one time?

I ask because I've been using my iPhone hooked up to my tv & home theater system. If I can just keep that there it world be great.

Perhaps i'm not understanding this thread but it is possible to use the iPhone on wifi only without jailbreaking the unit.

Put the phone in airplane mode, then turn on wifi - seems much easier then needing to jailbreak it.

Yes the iPhone can be used as an iPod touch. It is just you can't use 3G or the phone funtions. There is no need to jailbreak it.

Now that seems to make more sense to me. Now do I have to repurchase the apps for the new iPhone?
