Just ordered a 128 gb purple iPhone 12. I would have preferred if it was a deeper shade of purple, like the purple shade on the back on the new imac (not the front) but oh well. I still like it.

I usually don't order phones mid cycle but my pixel 5 decided to stop working and I got fed up with google, this is the 4th time a pixel/Nexus goes kaputt on me (out of 7 galaxy/pixel I've had) ...

Looks fantastic. Love the purple colour
May is about a week away, and then it will be about 4ish months before the new iPhones so, I’m holding off the new colour urge.

I don’t understand why they introduce a new colour now, when new iPhones will be here in less than 5 months.
It’s called mid cycle refresh. Sales of iPhones tend to slope down until the next iPhone is announced. Mid cycle colors like this cost minimally for Apple, and can help boost mid cycle sales prior to the best iPhone later this year. Apple used to do the red color for this purpose.

I bought the green 12 Mini for my wife, which she loves. That sort of blue-turquoise-green range of colours is one of her favourites.

Her absolute favourite colour? Purple. 🤷🏻‍♂️
Your wife and I have similar taste. I also have the green 12 mini and I love it and love the same color range. I also love purple. And coral. I liked my daughter’s coral Xr. I briefly had the Product Red iPhone 12 and that actually looked dark coral. I miss that color but I prefer my green mini. Purple would be my number one choice.

So disappointed there isn't a pink option. I really dislike this blue on my iPhone 12. Yes I know I can buy a pink case but that is neither here nor there.

I would’ve loved to buy a Rose Gold 12 Pro Max. Rose Gold has always been my favorite color, and I was so disappointed when Apple stopped using the color.

I had the iPhone SE1 in rose gold. It was a pretty color, but more young and modern, not very sophisticated.

I got the 12PM in gold this year, I have to say I wasn't wowed in the beginning, but over time I began to see its beauty. The chrome gold rim is lux, meanwhile the gold backing is subdued/ kind of blah almost, but has a chameleon quality to it depending on lighting. It can look off white, or it can look kind of champagne gold. I love it. I think the 12 pro series really elevated color to a whole other level.

It’s a refreshing color and one that will be around for a while on some future models
I’ve seen a couple TV commercials which show a deeper purple have to eye ball it in real life to get a true color

Not everyone replaces their iPhones on Day 1 of availability - mine tend to be replaced around this time of year. People buy throughout the year, often because their old phone died, needed a too-expensive repair, or was lost/stolen. In other words, they buy when they need one, rather than when they want one.

In my case color is not a deciding factor - I'm one of those "I cover it with a case anyway" people. However, it's one more way to bring other potential buyers to the tipping point.

Apple has been doing springtime color refreshes for quite some time. It's very typical for accessory items like cases and Watch bands, less common for major items like iPhones and Macs. However, it does happen, more typically with the introduction of a (Product) Red edition. Altogether, that means Apple is already quite familiar with the sales effectiveness of introducing new colors.

As trivial as a new color may seem to some, it's still an excuse to stir the marketing pot - it will be reported widely, gaining attention for the entire product line.

I couldn't disagree more about it not being sophisticated.I think it is gorgeous.
