Circuit City screwed this up. They wouldn't know about this in advance anyways, Apple doesn't give out that kind of info to a retailer such as CC. But here is the tell tale sign of a major error by CC's advertising graphic designer... the album art also changed hue to match the new purple color. That is a dead giveaway, Apple would and has never changed album art to match the iPod's color, they find existing album art that matches nicely. End of story. Take this **** off the front page. This is already going to be on digg and cause even more wild theories about Apple's plans for thursday. Let me just say... thursday will be a let down, nothing very exciting for the average joe.

Probably just a Photoshop job

Here's my guess:
They started with a picture that included the (PRODUCT) RED Nano and they liked it but for the fact that it included a product that they aren't allowed to sell. So they just changed the color on it in Photoshop.

Am I the only one who misses the old bolder colors?

Especially the old green. I like my 2nd gen black nano a lot, but I was this close to giving up 4 gigs for green. It was so bright and tasty! The new green is like toothpaste. :(

It was a mistake.

They posted a correction in the stores stating as much.

monozuki, if you really wanted to, you can buy a green case for your 2G on eBay, and swap the black ones guts into it.

Just to let you know, purple is the new hot colour for ladies' mobile phones in the UK at least. After a plethora of girly pink offerings, all the networks/manufacturers have cottoned on the fact that the colour is just too cutesy for the more sophisticated female but purple/plum have recent begun to fly off the selves for this market segment. Witness the plum K550i or the purple s500 from SonyErrikson or MOTO U9...

I'd love to see a purple ipod.

It looks like they didn't shoot this and just adjusted an already existing image so that is why the color is way off.

I have the Pink Nano and love the color. Clearly a women's iPod but it is simply adorable. The color is perfect. I just love to look at how the color seems to change. Even in certain lighting, it looks kinda purpleish.

I don't think we can read much into this.

But at least it would give something new for Apple to release this week...

Purple iPod Tuesday! :D

uh, not that this is a major topic that needs to be expounded on, but am i missing something. if you go to apple's ipod shuffle page it shows a purple shuffle. looks like purple is in.

I upgraded my second ATT line from the old ROKR to a dark plum LG CU515, it's yummy but the color is tricky, not everyone sees that color well so it can look charcoal to some people, I think. I love the color, it's what sold me.

My green 3g nano is sometimes a purple iPod via an iSkin duo. It's VERY purple, though, not plum.

It's funny how a potential purple nano is page 1, and the source who called Macbooks and Macbook Pros both being announced on the same day is on page 2!

Did anyone else notice that the color of the text on the clickwheel is the same color as the color of the body of the iPod? You can't really notice this on the picture of the flyer online, but it's noticeable in the actual print version that I saw. If this is correct, this would be the same thing that happened with the iPod mini: the 1st gen. had gray clickwheel text, but the 2nd gen. clickwheel text was the same color as the body of the iPod.
