Just recently a purple "new moon" started appearing right at the top center of my original apple watch, right above the 12 on a regular watch face. Does anyone know what this is, or how to remove it? It is curved, like a new moon, with the ends at approximately 5 and 9 o'clock and the center at 7 o'clock. Nothing happens when I touch it, push it, slide it, etc.

It is Do Not Disturb. I believe you can change the settings on your phone from the Watch App. You can also manually turn it off or on from the watch.
