Hi,

I've had the iMac M3 for a few weeks, it's my first Apple Silicon, today I came across the Purple Screen of Death 3 times, resulting in the Mac restarting. I'd never seen anything like it, here's the first part of the report:

panic(cpu 0 caller 0xfffffe002920ef78): "dart-apcie2 (0xfffffe1b4a3dc000): DART(DART) error: SID 1 STE invalid exception on read of DVA 0 (SEG 0 PTE 0) ERROR_STATUS 0x80100004 TIME 0x18b2c06b7384 TTE 0xffffffffffffffff AXI_ID 0" @AppleT8110DART.cpp:2010
Debugger message: panic

Can you tell me more about this type of "panic"? Is it a software issue or should I worry that it's hardware?

What method should I apply to better understand what caused it?

The times the 3 reboots happened, I had an external SSD hard drive connected via a USB extension cable. However, I must say that I had used the hard disk other times in recent weeks, even intensely, and nothing had happened.

I await yours!

I had a Samsung T5 500 GB external SSD connected via a USB-C -> USB-A extension + original Samsung USB-A -> USB-C cable.

I've been using this SSD for weeks and it's the first time my computer has given me problems.

As mentioned, the Mac rebooted 3 times today, but then it didn't happen again and I tried using the SSD again.

Did the same thing happen to you? Do you think it's the connection or what?

I suggest connecting the drive without using an extension cable.
I can also do as you say, but an explanation why it worked for weeks without problems and now I should change my ways.

So you read the USB cable in the error? Or what? So it's a simple software issue?

I have a T5 Samsung 500gb SSD with the same cable. I don’t have it hooked up currently but take it in my back pack for just in case. I use to have it plugged into my 2018 i7 Mac Mini. It’s temperamental, It would go months no problem then weeks disconnect issues. i never figured out the cause. It drove me nuts. I switched to Crucial drives for my Macs a few years back.

However, I use the T5 connected via USB-C adapter -> USB-A extension + original Samsung USB-A -> USB-C cable.

As mentioned, apart from yesterday 3 times, I have never had problems, and apparently not even now, with this configuration.

Do you think it's the adapter or the hard disk?

I sometimes have disconnection problems with the Samung T7. I think it's overheating, it gets hotter than the T5.
