Hi, my daughter's 13" 2012 rMBP (2.5/8/256, 014 panel) recently developed a purple stain in the screen as shown below. I run the IR test for 10 minutes and it passed, so guess it is not IR, but rather what is being called "Mura"?

The machine is less than 1 year old (also has extended Apple Care) so imagine this would be covered under warranty? I would have to probably wait until spring break or summer to take it in for service (since she use it for school daily), but wonder if it will get worst over the next few months.

I'd return for my money back. Unless you'd want to give them 3 tries and then call out. Personally, I would be concerned over such a hefty price tag. I'd expect a whole lot less defects that's for sure. Just my opinion though.

Thanks. There are no Apple stores in Puerto Rico, would have to take it to an Apple authorized reseller, which most likely will either order the screen or send the whole machine to Apple in the US for repair. That's why will most likely have to wait a bit to claim warranty since don't want my daughter to be left without her computer while in school (unless I lend her mine  )

Thanks for the heads-up. Money back don't think is an option at this point since the machine is 11 months old, but will for sure claim warranty on it.

I had the same issue with mine. Except that before the one that showed a mura, I dealt with 4 other machines with yellow bottom half, pink corner and so on. Apple CS (a Senior Advisor) wrote down on my file that I was eligible for a full refund, even passed the 14-day window. That's worth a shot - call CS and ask for a supervisor.

The screen with muras was Samsung. The Genius Associate looked up in terminal and told me 'Samsung, makes sense.' I guess this is a known issue internally.

I got a new machine in exchange and half of the screen to the left is now greenish. About to return everything and get my money back. I'll wait it out until the next gen.

If Muras are common on Samsungs that may mean that A014 screens on 13" rMBP are Samsung. I tested the machine for IR and it passed, so again the screen may be a Samsung. It would be nice if they exchange the machine for a refurbished Haswell version, my daughter would not mind for sure! :D
