Purpose of RAM upgrade?

I was thinking of upgrading the RAM on my iMac to 8 or 12GB. I know basically what RAM does, but can anyone tell me what kind of an effect it would have on gaming? Do the textures load to the RAM, and if so does having more RAM speed up the game? Thanks.

What kind of games (and which iMac) are we talking about? I don't think that going from 8 to 12 gig will be any benefit for you.

Reset your computer and then load a game. Play for a while and then post your page in and outs from activity monitor here.

It will help you decide if more ram would be beneficial for gaming.
