I don't want to receive notifications from the posts of this moderator and I don't want to see his replies unless such reply is related to actual moderator duties. He is a moderator and I cannot put him on my ignore list.
I know I'm late to this thread, and don't feel like reading 6 pages of posts. While I understand the general question about being able to ignore a forum member who is also a moderator, I'm baffled by the post you asked to be considered. I don't see anything ignore-worthy in that post. There was a very innocuous posting of a viewpoint which may or may not line up with yours. I see no reasonable reason for wanting to ignore the poster, whether they're a moderator or not.
The maximum is 1000 members can be ignored.
I think it's safe to say that if a person wants to ignore that many people, some time looking in the mirror is likely appropriate.

What is the purpose of the ignore list functionality of the MacRumors Forums?

If we don't want to see posts from certain people then we can put those people on ignore. That way we won't get notifications from those people but we will still get notifications from the people who interest us. It's a wonderful system.. when it is used in a fair and consistent manner. However, I feel that it isn’t always fair and consistent from a normal member's point of view.

Yes, I realize that we cannot put a mod on ignore. So, how do we get moderators to not reply to our posts as if they were a normal member and not doing moderator-related duties? Or at least make it so that I don't receive notifications from their non-moderator replies to my posts?

I emailed Arn about this issue, just in case he misses this thread.

Of course you can’t ignore a mod, what would be the purpose of that? If you feel a mod has broken forum rules though I do believe they can be reported like anybody else. If you don’t want to engage with a mod on a topic, just don’t reply to their post.

Serious question: have you read all seven pages of this conversation? Or did you just read the first post and respond to that? The finer points of reasons for wanting to ignore, or not, have been discussed at extreme length. And there has been considerable discussion back and forth with the original poster in the nearly 4 weeks since the original post.

I answered the post I quoted. It popped up on Tapatalk and I responded, but probably won’t contribute beyond that.

There was a lot of nuance in these threads, but some of it boils down (my allegory) the inmates are running the asylum. As I said, for me, in the first pages, I just ignore posts and when I feel it's in my best interests, ignore replied to posts. This is an anonymous internet forum, so I make a big attempt in my mind, not to take things personally. It however, does sound simple just to add a button to the mod screens that reads: "Mod Post Reply". When a moderator is posting as a user then the moderator would use the "Post Reply" button.

However, sounding simple and being simple are two different things.

When they are posting as mods, mods usually preface their posts with clear statement (usually expressed as mod note, or mod warning, between square brackets) that they are posting in their capacity as mods.

The rest of the time, if they post in a thread, it is usually fairly clear that it is in a personal or private capacity.

Personally, I don't have a problem with that.

Absolutely - no one is exempted from the rules. If anyone feels there's a violation in a post, no matter who wrote the post, please do report it so we can take a look.

:p

This is a wild post considering @maflynn is the nicest and most level-headed mod on the forums.

@maflynn is a great guy, and I can vouch for the others, too!

Dunno. He's nice, don't get me wrong, but annk may be even more level headed.

We should have a mod-off.

*bows and sends thanks @millerj123*

Does nobody want to advocate for @Weaselboy? We need at least 3 for a proper Mod-Off :)

I will advocate for him :).

We support each other in being level-headed. Of course we have our days where we're not the best versions of ourselves, just like everyone else. Being on a team means we are each other's checks and balances, and we always have the option of asking for each other's opinions, asking the others if we're misunderstanding a post or if the moderation we're in the process of doing adheres to policy, or even asking another mod to take over if we feel we're not able to be impartial in a thread.

Thanks for a fun read on a Friday morning - have a great weekend guys!
