I think the reports of drained battery life have a lot to do with people misconfiguring it. For one, there is no need to sync folders other than the inbox unless you filter mail to folders and leave them unread. If you do this, then syncing that folder will show you how many unread messages there are when you browse the folders. However, you will not get a badge on the Mail icon as that is only for the inbox. If you manually browse to any folder, the messages will be automatically downloaded. So, unless you need to see the unread count in the folder list, do not sync a lot of folders. Also, if you are setting up a bunch of folders and are setting it to sync a month or "no limit", then you will get a lot of a battery drain as it will take much longer to sync.

Mine is set up to just inbox and only 3 days.

It was warm to the touch all yesterday and blitzed through the battery. It's doing the same thing again today. I just turned off "Mail" from the activesync and now it's normal temp and the battery drain is normal. It's gotta be something with the Sync. It's more than double the normal battery drain for me.

I haven't seen any difference in the battery drain. The only time it drained the battery was when it was first enabled and the servers weren't working correctly. My guess is there is another configuration issue with your setup. I am getting messages very quickly, yet it isn't draining the battery any more than my old setup with exchange calendar and contacts and imap gmail.

Same thing here. I see absolutely no difference in battery life today compared to 2 days ago (I don't count yesterday given all the server issues). I'm getting mail pushed within 10-30 seconds of arriving.

I've had "Google Exchange" running all day on my 3G (and yest) and I've not noticed any significant difference in battery life. Mails are pushed through really quickly and all in all, I'm happy with it.

so can i delete the "gmail" email and just keep the microsoft exchange "gmail push" email?

also, I want to set the exchange email to just push right? and set the fetch to manual so it does not fetch it?

also, how do i get rid of the [gmail] folder with all the subfolders? I don't have them to view on gmail.com so im not sure what i'm doing wrong.

thanks.

That's what I did. The only reason you might want to keep Gmail/Imap is if you want to access messages that are older than 28 days. I figured I never do that anyway, so I removed regular Gmail/Imap and only use Gmail/Push now. It seems to be working a lot better today than it did yesterday.

I just set up my push gmail, inbox seems to be working..

A couple questions though

1. In the settings, there's a box for mail days to sync.. I set mine for two weeks, does this mean I won't have access to any mail older than two weeks on the mail app? I tried doing a search for mail older than that, and nothing showed up..If I set it to no limit I'm guessing they'll show up, but then each and every email in my gmail inbox will show up in the mail app?

2. It seems to be ignoring the setting for how many emails to show, I have mine set to 25, definitely showing more than that lol..

Sorry if these questions sound dumb, just trying to figure this out

On the Google Sync page it notes the inabity to use the "Continue search on server" as a known issue. So no matter what settings you have, you can only search the e-mails that have been downloaded and are local on the device.

What's the issue? It's been 100% smooth sailing for me today with Gmail pushing.
I had an email dated September 9 in a label called "Saved"

I set all folders to push.

The phone could not see that email no matter what I did.

It is a known issue that emails older than 28 days or that are too big won't download, but this email did not apply to either scenario.

Also, as I understand it, with the Exchange Push turned on, deleted emails on the phone get archived. I think that that is so stupid. So between that, and the saved emails not coming to the device, I just put it back on IMAP.

Just curious, why are you pushing sent mail? My understanding is that if you want to sync with sent mail, you can just navigate to that folder and it will retrieve those messages instantly. I thought the value of push is to have instant notification of mail that's sent to you. I wouldn't think that would be the case with the sent mail folder. I assume you'd only push folders other than the Inbox if you have a server side rule that files new messages into folders other than the Inbox.

It's just to keep sent emails from my desktop synced. Lots of times I'll send 50 messages on my desktop before opening up the Sent folder on my iPhone to check something and then I have to sit there and wait for it to download all 50 messages which is kind of annoying. This way, as soon as I send an email from my desktop it's already there on my iPhone.

I've repeatedly gotten a message that my password is incorrect, but it is not. Is anybody else having this problem?

My gmail was pushing fine late last night and this morning but for most of the day ive been getting my email delayed. Sometimes 10 to 15 minutes after my gpush alert shows up. Anyone else having a problem with push not working.

My battery was draining 1% every 3 minutes today...at least thats what the percentage said. Dont know if it was cause of this or the % was just stupid.

Interesting, though.

Anyone else having trouble retrieving mail now? I'm getting a message that says "Cannot Get Mail The connection to the server failed."

I have been having trouble for a few hours now. I think Google is having issues again.

I think GMAIL is hosed today. I ended up turning my IMAP back on because push wasn't working, but IMAP isnt working anymore either. Just sits on "connecting"
