Push notifications on unlocked iPhone 2G

On a 2G no, as soon as you change your SIM if you activated with an ATT SIM push gets disabled. 3G it should work fine

I got a 3G iphone pay as you go O2 sim on ebay to see if that would work to activate my 2G phone, but I just get a message that it's an unsupported SIM. I though there might be a way to just activated my old phone with this new sim...apparently not.

Any suggestions what I could try? Besides not using push notifications....

He's not asking about jailbreaking or unlocking.
