So, is Mobile me now Push? ...or do we have to wait for 3.0?
MobileMe has had Push from the beginning. What is new in 3.0 is to allow other applications to do Push.
My understanding is that Push has NOT been available from the beginning. It was more of an IMAP application. If I remember correctly, they even had to stop using the word PUSH in advertising as it wasn't the truth. I think I've also seen over the last few months that PUSH will finally be available.
Anyone know? Was PUSH added and we didn't need to update our software? Will it only be available with 3.0?
This topic has been covered many times. The people that say MobileMe does NOT do Push are actually saying they do not like the way MobileMe does Push. For the rest of us what it means is that Email hits our inbox almost instantly. Without Push you are using Fetch and that retrieves email based on an interval of polling the server.
As far as the part where they stopped using the word Push in all cases. I "believe" that had to do with the Contacts and/or maybe Calendar (NOT EMAIL). In that case they were doing more of a periodic Sync so they could not call everything they do with MobileMe Push. However, I think they have improved that part since then.
Now back to Email. Some will argue forever that what is done is not "true" Push. Nothing in 3.0 will change this so I guess this arguement will continue until the next major release.
Push Notifications that is built into 3.0 has nothing to do with MobileMe. It was designed so that other applications can work like MobileMe.
Push Notifications for App Store apps is now available. Push e-mail has been around already. This is for when you are not running a program you can still receive updates/things from it.
