Put to sleep issue

When I put my iMac 27" to sleep it shuts it's down, I have looked around but I don't find anything helpfull, just wondering if anyone nos anything, thank you in advanced

i think his imac was meant to sleep but it shuts down.

Yes I go to the apple logo, push sleep, but the computer shuts down
