putting older videos into Photos Library

So I've made the change to iCloud Photos, I've got almost every photo and video I own onto the service but there is a few that just won't get accepted. What format do videos need to be in to get accepted and is there a app out there that can convert any video I have to the appropriate format?

Quicktime on OSX should be able to convert those videos to .mov for you. Have you tried that?

Thanks for the reply, yes I have tried that and it won't even open the video files
