When trying to jailbreak I keep getting a error through I tunes saying "the iphone cannot be restored at this time because the iphone software update server is unavailable ".

I remember making some changes to my system when they stopped signing previous packages but cant find what I did. Any help or ideas?

You might've edited your hosts file accidentally (& wrongly).

It's trying to connect to the Apple server to verify the installation of the firmware...and unable to reach it.

1. Make sure you are connected to the internet
2. Check your hosts file for any changes

I remember editing my host file not sure which one and what i added

leave it original apple servers if you are going to use Pwnage Tool for your custom fw, just make sure you press option + restore to select your custom fw.
