iPhone Pwnage Guide: PwnageTool/QuickPwn/WinPwn: Unlock and Jailbreak iPhone/3G

Updated cracked iPhone 2G with iTunes

I updated my hacked iPhone 2G with iTunes to new 3.1 software. I thought i could restore the old 1.14 version if it would not work. Now my phone does not work and there was no way to restore the old sw.

Am I now totally f-d? I tried to run PwnageTool but it said wrong ipsw file (I tried 1,1_2.0.2_5C1_Restore.ipsw. Any help greatly appreciated.

Pwnage Tool doesn't work with 3.0.1 you have to use redsn0w.
 
After I go through the steps to downgrade back to 3.0 and the jailbreak process, I can't get passed this...

I am using Windows & am having a hard time finding anymore info.

Can you use iTunes 9? Or should I downgrade that as well to 8?
 
Hey guys I have a question.

So my 3GS is on 3.0 and was jailbroken with redsnow using my windows laptop. I no longer have a windows machine as Ive upgrade to a MacBook Pro (woo hoo!). Will I have a problem upgrading to 3.1 using the newly released Pwnage Tool 3.1.3? And if i do upgrade will I lose my tethering option?

You can always use parallels or boot camp to run windows apps.
 
Quick Pwnagetool noob question...

After using Pwnagetool 3.1.3 on an original 2G iPhone (creating a 3.1 IPSW), is there a way to tell if the phone has been successfully unlocked other than putting in a non-AT&T SIM card? Jailbreak was successful for me last night but I can't tell if it unlocked as well.

The Pwnagetool prompts weren't very clear as to whether it was going to unlock as well as jailbreak. It only asked, "Is your phone on a contract for which you normally connect to iTunes to activate?" Since this 2G iPhone is now off its contract (having been replaced by a 3GS a couple months ago), I answered, "No." But there wasn't any further explanation.
 
quick question to you folks. My friend wants to unlock her iphone 3G and has the 3.1 firmware.

Is it possible to do this? I know you can jailbreak but is unlocking 3.1 possible yet?
 
Hi all,

I really need some guidance. I JB my iphone in dec 08. the version I have is 2.2 (5G77). I have tried downloading certain apps and they don't run since I need to upgrade my version. I don't know how to upgrade, and I tried to find it but could not.

So experts if you could tell me where I can find step by step instructions to upgrade my version from 2.2 to whatever, I don't even know which version to upgrade to. I would also like MMS enabled. So be kind and help me out here.
 
Ughh, I having the common problem of being stuck on the itunes recovery mode screen. I'm on windows, using blackrain. I feel like Ive tried all the suggestions Ive read about. So frustraiting.
Is there any other JB for windows I can try?

Similar situation - I did read both blogs, but still confused. Maybe my requirement is too straightforward as I haven't done any jailbreaking at all. Here's the deal -

3G
3.1.2, latest carrier file, etc etc. All via iTunes of course
ATT
Windows

I honestly can't tell from the reads if I can just jailbreak using whatever tool, have to roll back the firmware first, or if it just can't be done.
 
is it suppouse to be this way?

I had a JB iPhone 3G S on 3.0
and then i wanted to update to 3.1.2
i updated through iTunes 9, it didn't delete the hacked apps, but they don't work after updating
so I JB again using blackra1n
i have Cydia installed but almost all of Cydia apps that i installed don't work
examples are: Winterboard, CyDelete, SBSettings, Five icon dock, Five column
almost all of them

did this happen to any one?
if not
should i restore my iphone and then JB again??

I've got a 16gb 3GS on 3.1.2 and bb 04.26.08 that was JB with Pwnage on a mac...
there are plenty of good tools available to unlock (+tutorials) but I'm not quite sure what software I should start with... (purplesnow? blacksnow?) I read some reports about wifi issues with blacksnow and wanted to know if I could avoid using it...

thoughts?

Can't make calls

I just used PwnageTool 3.1.4 to jailbreak my iphone. I want to keep the service locked to att. I can't make calls and when I go into preferences on my phone it shows my phone number is unknown. In itunes it shows my phone exactly as it was before the jailbreak.

Does anyone know how I can get my phone service back?

Was "activate" checked when you ran pwnage tool?

You might want to retry the jailbreak. I think you have to be in expert mode to see it. Or you can simply restore and activate the phone, then try running blackra1n and it will basically do the same thing.

One quick question. After I restore and restore from an unjailbroken backup do I have to let it sync or can I stop the sync and run blackra1n?

Just cancel the sync, nothing needs to go onto the phone yet. Just make sure to pick your unjailbroken backup and make sure you get to where you can see the phone is activated and you have service. Then run blackra1n.

I have a 16gig 3G iPhone running on 3.1.2 software. Im using Pwnage Tool 3.1.4 and have gotten all the way past the DFU steps. Now when I tried restoring my iPhone with the custom firmware pack, it says its incompatible. What should I do?

I also tried using blackra1n before Pwnage and the file that I download from the original site doesn't even open up. I am using a Mac OS X 10.5.8 and have had no luck in activating the blackra1n program on my macbook at all.

Please any help is needed.
 
need advice, please

Have a 3g iphone for last two years, thinking about unlocking it. What are the benefits and if i decide to do it how should i open it? Buy through a website or do it myself? confused.... just looking for the best answer
