Pwnage question...restore then DFU?

so I've run the Pwnage tool 1326 times and it keeps failing (2G iPhone running 1.1.4). I then read that I'm to restore it in iTunes, upgrading to 2.2 (or whatever iTunes is pushing now), then put it into DFU mode THEN run Pwnage. I'm in Canada, so the 2G isn't supported by the Powers That Be...so I need it unlocked and jailbroken.

can someone confirm this is the way to do it (and that they've done it before). The iClarified "step by step" doesn't mention it, and it keeps giving me the blasted "sry, I haz fail" screen.

Ok, first, what do you want to do? Unlock it to use on T-Mobile? Or are you a legit AT&T customer and just wish to add more functionality to the iPhone?
