On iClarified there are two methods for a 5.0.1 JB. I have read that RedSn0W is the buggier method. Is this true? I've used PwnageTool before and it worked flawlessly but recently there are so many threads with problems related to RedSn0w.

    PwnageTool
    RedSn0w

What do you recommend? When did PwnageTool 5.0.1 get released? I thought RedSn0w was the only method to get an untethered JB.

Is that the difference? PwnageTool is tethered while RedSn0w is untethered?

both are untethered. for right now, redsn0w is the way to go because it incorporates some important jailbreak fixes that pwnagetool doesnt from the get-go. also, hacktivation is broken in the current pwnage tool, but it works just fine in redsn0w. honestly, im so used to pwnage tool and its never ever given me a problem with my jailbreak, but i learned how to use redsn0w the other day so now im comfortable with both.

Hmmm thanks. I'm also thinking I'll wait for 5.1 JB. I'm sure Apple is updating to 5.1 soon.

But there may not be a 5.1 untethered jailbreak soon! Or not until just before 5.2 is released, then you are still in the same situation :)

JB 5.0.1 now, don't update until 5.1 has an UNtethered jailbreak. The difference between stock and JB is larger than between 5.0.1 and 5.1

Why can't people who are jailbroken ask themselves a simple question.

"Is there a feature or a fix in the newest release of iOS that I need or want?"

If the answer is "No.", then do not upgrade.

But there is always a fix. The question is, is that fix not worth being able to JB.

Since we don't have a downgrade method (on mac) yet, there is only the window of when the current jb is on that certain FW.

Better move quick on 5.0.1 if I were you.

Yes, there are always fixes. That's not the point. The point is, do you need it.

Pwnagetool is actually the buggier method of jailbreaking and here is why: the team hasn't updated the program with the same patches they updated redsn0w with to fix issues like launchctl and mobile substrate. So if you use pwnagetool you'll then need to jailbreak again with the latest redsn0w to fix the bugs.

Unfortunately this information isn't on their site so you'd never know it if you weren't paying attention when they originally released the programs side by side to jailbreak 5.0.1.
