If you buy a QI charger and get a new iPhone will CarPlay work through the QI Charger?

EDIT: Guess you can only get an Apple MFI since it MUST have a Lightning port.

Qi is Qi and has nothing to do with Lightning ports. Different question.

The answer to your real first question, "If you buy a QI charger and get a new iPhone will CarPlay work through the QI Charger?", depends on whether your car (or aftermarket head unit) supports wireless CarPlay. Some do -- BMW does, I think -- but some, like my Honda, don't.

Putting a Qi pad in my car will let the phone charge, and it'll still do the same basic Bluetooth functions as before, but I'd lose out on CarPlay. I'd much rather retain CarPlay than add wireless charging.

I understand that Qi is only charger and any Qi should just charge. However Apple seemed to indicate that they were using an 'enhanced' version that required a specific Qi charger and that Belkin an Mophie will soon offer the iPhone wireless chargers? Apple even mentioned CarPlay and the Qi system.

EDIT: Belkin now has theirs online. It appears to just be a charger and is just "Fine-tuned for Apple" and "Tuned specifically for the wireless technology in iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone X" whatever that means. So I guess any Qi charger should work and it is just a charger.

Will probably have to wait and see what Apple's AirPower tech is ands if it offers any data connection.
