I have a couple of down-to-Earth questions about Qi wireless charging that bug me. I really do not understand how this works.

These new wireless smartphones, like the iPhone 8, 8 Plus and X, have a glass back so they can be set on some Qi wireless charging device to get juice without being plugging in with a cable. I get that.

Does that mean that, if you want to wirelessly charge your mobile device, you cannot sheath it with a protective skin or case? Wouldn't a skin or case interfere with the wireless charging?

Another Qi / smartphone question: I've heard it said that when you have the smartphone set down on a Qi charging station, you can't make or receive calls. Why not? Can't you just use the speakerphone and leave the device set on the charger?

You can use cases. Most cannot be over 3mm and not have any metal on the back.

Not sure about the usage while charging.
