i've got the iphone 3G and thus have no recording abilities. I am currently using Cycorder which works well and it's free. My question, is Qik Video Camera a better recorder? It's $2 which I don't mind paying for but if it's not much better picture quality then i'd rather just use Cycorder.

Qik is designed to stream live video to an internet site (at least the Cydia version was live) I may be mistaken, but I don't think Qik even stores the video on the phone. The App Store version works differently.

Edit: Just opened the Cydia Version of Qik, hsotnicam8002 is correct of course, there is a drop down menu of previously recorded videos inside the Qik app. Just my bad memory. Sorry for the mis-information.

Qik does store it on the phone. How else would it play it back off line (which you can do)?You can attach to email, share a link (uploaded) by sms or post to facebook (via a link). You can also add it to the camera roll to then sync a copy to your mac. It doesn't turn the iPhone 3G into an HD camcorder if that's what you're looking for. It's still a bit choppy and doesn't give very good results in poor light. But then neither does the built in still camera. The iPhone 3G just doesn't cut it in certain ways, even compared to phones/smartphones that came out 2-3 years before it. But it has that certain something that makes it better overall. Maybe it's the Apple logo on the back? Or the drop-ability followed by the crowd cheers?

I'm not expecting HD video by any means. I just want to know if it's worth the $2 to change recorders. If the picture quality is the same as cycorder then i'd rather spend my $2 on a game or something.

    Yes.

It records the same quality as Cycorder. It uploads to Facebook. The videos sync with iPhoto.

There's now no advantage to using Cycorder (other than being free)

the fps might be the same but cycorder uses a different way to record video than the apps in the app store and to me it still looks better on playback. the extra features of the app store apps to share to facebook etc.. may still make the difference negligible though. for me i just use qtweeter to upload videos to twitvid and have twitvid forward the vids to youtube.

Cycorder is damn near useless....you can't email the video to anyone, post to anything, etc. I deleted cycorder and now use qik video. The $2 is way worth it for the added functionality.

    qik has several video apps

    one stores and uploads later
    one streams live
one records video with effects and stuff

i even use the third on my 3gs for some stuff.

Qik is way better imho. The fact you can upload to everything is so nice. I would say Qik takes better video, even though they both claim 15FPS, cycorder has "spurts" and kinda lags every few seconds. Qik is nice and steady and i love it. Best 2 dollars ive spent.

are you going buy the low quality or the high quality settings in quick, it says low quality achieves the 15 fps, but the resolution is much smaller, videos probably look tiny when played back on computer, where as the higher quality setting is comparable to cycorders resolution, not sure on what the playback is like on that setting. anyone test both the options out compared to cycorder?

I noticed the same thing. I am suspecting that the Developer might have used some non standard API's and Apple removed the app. What I don't like is if Apple is going to remove applications from the AppStore, they should send out a notification to the people who purchased the app. It leaves us hanging to whether there still is an upgrade cycle to the app or another casualty to Apple strict policies. If there are going to permanently pull the application or the developer, then they should refund our money. We should not be punished.

If anyone learns what happened to QIK Video Camera, please post. I don't what to keep buying Video recording apps. I currently own 3.
