    Hi All -

I'm using a 15" Core Duo unibody MBP. I've been thinking about moving to a MBA for sometime. Here are the reasons I wanted to switch:

    1. The bottom of MBP gets SO hot sitting on my lap. In my opinion, it's unusable on my lap because of the heat factor.
    2. I RARELY use a CD or DVD. Except for occasionally ripping a movie I never need it.
    3. Weight. It's got some weight to it.
    4. I don't need that much speed for what I do. Lite video editing, photo editing. Otherwise it's database management, email, safari and the usual delights.

I do have a 1T HD that I would miss. But, I would keep itunes and iphoto libraries on an external HD and probably be just fine.

So, just wondering from people who have made the move .... any regrets?

Anything that stands out as fantastic you discovered about the change afterward? Anything that stands out as a bummer you discovered afterward?

I will appreciate any comments or advise.

I didn't bought MBA, however people who did are happy with that - with 1.8 Ghz processor and SSD drive it works quite fast. However, I don't know about heat.

Bring some sample stuff to an Apple store and see what editing it looks like on the Air. Will the smaller screen be an issue for you? Is the screen resolution on the Air sufficient for your needs.

I also don't use my optical drive that much most of the time (and that's on an iMac), I suspect that the external drive will be fine especially if you really only need to use it at home.

Have you tried opening and cleaning around the vents and fans? I have a 2.4Ghz Core 2 Duo 15" MBP as well, I noticed my lap burning when it never used to... cleaned it... and the temps dropped 8-10deg.

I am also debating switching to an 11" MBA, I have been rather stationary the last year but I will be moving around a lot from Oct onwards... the 11" MBAs ability to drive an external monitor and play hi-def video on it worries me though...
