Hi,

Just wanted some opinions on this...I haven't been following chip technology of late, however, I do remember rumours/ hopes for quad cores in notebooks back in late 2008. Having seen these recent Macbook updates and whilst they look well specced and powerful...how long until we see quad core? I know many PC laptops have it but I haven't compared size, battery, heat etc..

I'm tempted to buy a new MacBook Pro but do not desperately need one and am considering holding out for October 2009, as I will desperately need one then.

Are Apple still a long way away from these chips, and is hoping for one like wishing for a Powerbook G5 in 2005?

Thanks

I agree, I think people are underestimating how long Apple will take when it comes to implementing quad cores in their laptops

I think at best, we’ll see quad core in the 17” MBP and the iMacs in 2010, but not in the 15 or 13” for another 18-24 months.

Agreed with the past two posts. Plus, since the 13" and 15" (mostly) use 25 W CPUs, we may not be seeing quad-core in the majority of the MacBook Pro line for a very long time (depending on Clarksfield's TDPs and any possible custom CPUs for Apple).
