Is this realistic in the near future? Maybe when the price of chips gets cut next month? Is it possible that the new iMacs will come soon enough for the free printer and iPod (student discount)? Thanks!

Mobile quad-core will be here in Q4 2008, though whether it would be suitable for an iMac is anyone's guess.

1. Not going to happen in the near future.
2. Nope

Nope to new iMacs coming soon enough for the free printer and iPod? It seems like this is not too unreasonable, even thought the quad core idea is quite unreasonable.

All Apple needs to do is move the chipset to Santa Rosa and the put a friggin' socket in rather than welding the CPU to the board. Then when QC CPUs come along we can all pop one in.
Too bad Apple will want you to be forking money over to themselves instead of giving it to Intel for a new CPU. They'll want you to buy a whole new system from them. It's nice to dream though.

Or Apple could just make a desktop machine use a damn desktop processor/chipset, and then you could have the Core 2 Extreme Quad-Core in there already.
