Given the strides made with the MBA, is there any realistic hope for a DUAL Core 2 Dual set up in a 17" MacBook Pro? I am certainly no design engineer, so I don't know how technologically feasible it would be, but it seems almost anything should be possible after the MBA.

Such a machine would be a fantastic desktop replacement.

Thoughts?

Not going to happen. That would run WAAY too hot, plus the Intel chipsets don't support it.

Only Xeon branded processors can run in tandem, so no.

If they on the other hand made a Quad-core mobile processor...

Someone will bring the specifics; quad-cores should be available in laptops by 2009, IIRC.

Possibly late 2008 or 2009, we may see MBP with quad core if Apple decides to release one. Probably be a redesign since the internals will all be new, new chipset, new cpu, etc.

The Montevina chipset will have quad core CPU with thermal rating of I believe 45 watt.

Not soon, I say that during or just before 2010 we will see quad core in our notebooks at the same or higher speeds that we have now.

I bet it is sooner than we think. Intel seems to be on a tear.

This sure beats the Moto/IBM PPC days (Sheesh, never thought I'd be saying THAT!). I am still adapting to a processor company that meets or exceeds its own deadlines and projections for innovation. And surprises us with die-shrunk variants for new projects like the MBA.
