Last Quake game I played for unhealthy number of hours was Quake 1996 from 1996-1998 at a local cyber cafe with six Pentium 1 LAN.

I think we were charged $2/hr

Quake1 is still a great game today, in 2023! Its app is still supported and developped for the Mac Silicon. There are so much awesome new and highly detailed maps for it now. You may give it a go, especially with mods like "Arcane Dimensions".

One can also use Quakespasm and such for classic Quake.

If you buy the game on GOG, you also get the old, classic DOS (and OpenGL) version.
