Dual 800 Quake 3 benchmarks have been posted.

Of note, this page has graphs comparing the Dual 800 vs a Dual 550mhz (overclocked). The Dual 800 is the following:

Stock configed dp800 (*not* BTO'd). THEN remove: nVidia Twinview 2mx. THEN add: a mac-flashed Asus 8200 Pure PC GeForce3; an 80GB IBM Deskstar 7200 slave drive; two 512mb sticks of pc133 cl3 ram

thats crap

over 200 fps out of a dual 533???
thats ***** from a zealot site.
though i am not surprised at the dual 800 fps
anything over 200 fps at those resolutions is great.
 
If you look..

That's using 10.1, where they used 10.0.4, they got 162.8 fps with the dual 533. Makes you wonder what the DP800 will get with 10.1 :) but the point is, Quake 3 is more limited by the video card than anything else....
 
hmmmmmm

FPS in Quake 3 sounds more like a GPU benchmark rather then a CPU benchmark. Can we get more specific info on the GPUs? or how about a real benchmark?

Hmmmmm, if macs can get over 200 fps. WHICH FREAK WAS ARGUING WITH ME AND CALLING ME A "ZEALOT" when I SAID THAT MACS CAN PRODUCE OVER 200 FPS on Quake 3?? I forget...


Its clear people. A Dual 800 G4 with Mac OSX 10.1 WILL EAT THE BEST PC TODAY in terms of frame rate. NO PC CAN PRODUCE 250 fps on Quake. NONE!

They can,belive me.I have a pc to and i get upp to 350 fps depending on what tweaks i use but 250 is no problem.The cfg that i play with generates around 230 fps but if i take the fov down to 90 and draweapon 0 and fastsky 1 then i have 250 easy not to talk about the s_mixahead 0.7 then its running very fast.

AMD 1400/266 fsb
256/2100 ram
3Dpower geforce2 pro 32m
Asus A7M/266 MB

There is your 250 fps easy :)

But i like my G4 better anyway it feels like a mercedes.
 
uh oh

im gonna tread carefully kela on this subject cos im falling in the ****.
I dont really like mercedes anyway, but the G4 is too kool.
Still playing the catch up game with PCs, but getting these results is good news for macs.
What i want to know is, does that quake 3 take advantage of dual processing? i assume it does.
Because if it does then i would not like to see the fps in a game that aint got dual processing optimization wotsit.

I wouldn't say that they never will have better framerates, but I don't doubt that PCs still are getting higher ones. Graphics engines and drivers are optimized for PCs, not Macs, and have been for a long time. Things are starting to go in the right direction. But the developement of games has been much more directed at PCs, so they get better performance. A dual 800 w/Geforce 3 certainly is capable of incredibly high framerates.
 
THIS is a benchmark?

You know, the whole point of benchmarking is to compare silimar systems. What exactly is the same with these two Macs? Two different versions of Quake. One Mac is overclocked, one is not. Two different amounts of RAM. Not a native Mac GeForce3, but a Mac Flashed PC card. Custom internal HD. One is 2X AGP, the other is 4X. Plus, the Quake levels are not tested under any of the preset detail levels.

Neither of these machines are stock G4's. They are so customized and so different, there's no way to draw any sort of meaningful numbers from the benchmark results.
 
Does anyone really care if you get 150 or 250 fps? I mean, can the human eye actually tell the difference between these frame rates?

Good point SomeGuy. Actually I think it would take certain freaks whose name I prefer not to mention that post very childishly and argue about fps in this forum, to tell the difference. Any game running at 60fps is excellent. 100 is perfect. 250 is superflous.

From what i have heard of the G5, it will kick ass.
and i also have a feeling it will establish the mac as the better allround platform over PCs.

you dont se the difference if you have 100 or 160 fps when you look in to a wall.But when 4 peaople attack you with plasma or rockets,then you will notice the difference because the thing is not to get high fps when you are alone in the game but to make shure it doesnt drop under 120 because if it do you will notice a big difference.Maybe you will not se it but you will FEEL
it and why are people trying to reach high fps well maybe because they are interested in these kind of things i think they call it "a hobby".

Megaquad and John123 are the same person. Its funny how the Bitch Megaquad sais something stupid and then the OberBitch John123 (who thinks he is from Harvard) comes in to support him. And Megaquad, have you noticed that Spikey makes sense in his talk and all you do is RANT like a Beeeaatch using "Idiot and Moron". I cannot believe that you have even had any type of education. Infact im starting to believe you dont even own any kind of mac. Only a PC FREAK would say that the AMD and PEntium are better processors than the G4 and upcoming G5.
