Eh, give me proper full Linux support on those Snapdragon laptops and I'll be jumping ship in no time.

And no AI please.

After hearing him putting AI in every sentence, I stopped watching his speech.
4 me no prob. Have a thinkpad with Debian. Motorola International 2700 with just 2G. Looking already for A working Linux to install at my mbp 2019. I‘m to old for that kind of tech. Don‘t need it anyway…

They should focus on their users not to be leaving platform first.
And when they get know Copilot is instantly phoning home they may end up like Windows mobile 😂

Before doing any victory laps here maybe we oughta see what Apple is about to try and do in the same space?

They would be smart to let Microsoft be the guinea pig and see how bad it blows up in their face first. I can’t imagine many people being comfortable with their computer automatically taking screenshots every few seconds and saving them. Certainly this feature will never be exploited.

I hesitate to guess on this

If MS uses it to make compelling and useful experiences for customers to get things done (easily find old things/ideas/states of work, get more done w/ a given amount of time and/or less effort), etc... we might be surprised here

Remember -- people use Google & Amazon quite willingly ... and their data gets wildly exploited

People watch YouTube with no YT Premium ... and it's just a bombardment of ADs

Mainstream folks tolerate more than I would ever guess

1. Why was the comparison to a mac book air? How about an M2 or M3? 2. My main complaints about macOS machines are price for upgrades in memory/SSD and external monitor glitches. I won’t buy a mac book because my son’s M1 MBP seems to have problems waking up sometimes and connecting to a monitor. And my 2018 mac mini has little glitches where I lose the monitor after first use for the day within an hour of so of use. Just weird stuff. That said, I use a PC at work and Windows 10 sucks. I can’t wait until our county IT department is forced to go to Windows 11 where there are tabbed explorer folders. They won’t allow anyone to install extensions and they don’t have any extra stuff on computers.
I think your thinking too much on that. There wasn't a comparison of anything if you go back and re-watch. In fact the only thing that video showed was the Mac guy saying "things change".

At 52:35 in the Snapdragon Comutex 2024 Keynote video the software they are showing (DaVinci Resolve) is actually running on Mac OS (check out the Apple logo on the menu bar). That's pretty embarrassing since they were supposed to be showing the software running under MS Windows on the Snapdragon X Elite.

As for the rest of the keynote, it was probably the most awkward technology keynote presentation that I've ever tired to watch. Plus, very short on any hardware or architecture details. Overall, a very poor presentation.

What a strange idea for a short video from them and poorly executed at that. It was really more of a video for Microsoft than Snapdragon. Notifications have nothing to do with the cpu. Sure there was mention by way of notifications of app compatibility and the battery being low. The first was something people dealt with early in the Apple Silicon life but isn't really an issue now unless you're stuck on old, old software(hi potential vulnerabilities!). If anything, the app compatibility issue will rear its head with Windows on ARM more so. The battery low thing is just odd when Apple Silicon Macs have been known for their outstanding battery life.

Lastly, they didn't even use(advertise) bing as the search engine for the search he was doing. Just weird.

I have my doubts that this video will be in any ad in the future.

At any rate I look forward to seeing how these new PC's do with Windows and Linux. I walked by a server room earlier this morning where the AC had failed. The door was wide open to let the heat out and the server fans were running full out. There was so much heat produced in the hallway that you could easily feel the temp change 50 feet away from the door. It had me wondering how ARM based servers would do in there in the same situation.

In the immortal words of Dave Chappelle, "I don't even know why people listen to me. I'll say anything. I've done commercials for Coke and Pepsi. I don't give a f*ck what comes out of my mouth. Whatever it takes, that's what i'm saying. Ya wanna know the truth? Can't taste the difference. All I know is Pepsi paid me more so.... it takes better. It's pretty much how the game goes!"
I know right. Like "I'm shocked, a person who get's paid to say things and pretend to think things in front of a camera said some things in front of a camera while pretending to think them."

Even if I thought Justin Long was sincere in these situations, I wouldn't care, his opinion on technology matters as much to me as any other celebrities, and less than some random person in my neighborhood. Find a middle age dude with a couple of kids who uses a computer to do design work for a living to talk about how great the technology is, that would hold a lot more weight with me. But I guess this is just about delivering a burn to Apple. "Hey Apple. Some guy you used to pay to say things now says things we pay him to say, BURN!!!, need some ointment for that?"

Competition is great for all of us. As a macOS user now, I am rooting for arm64 Windows to take off due to widespread adoption of these Snapdragons.
Same here, but the Copilot+ disaster (not Qualcomm's fault, of course) is a disastrous first step.

The PC landscape is becoming messier than ever because now they have Intel and Qualcomm customer hunting and laptop designers have to accommodate both of them.

Yeah. That was my idea as well and it seems it happened already.

It does not say that Apple will provide level of features as MS. On the fly audio translation if I remeber well MS presentation, seems cool and usefull and no rumors Apple has something similar yet and if it will be language limited as many other services now.

And there are videos about programmers leaving Copilot because spilling they code.

It seems they removed the Justin Long ad from the hour+ YouTube keynote.

But someone else posted it here if you want to see it:

Justin is drinking Brawndo in the end right? Why is he hinting so hard at the cup?

Ok, that was well done. Not nearly as tacky as I feared it would be.

I miss the old "I'm a Mac/ I'm a PC" ads...
