That industry still uses "Steve Balmer" phones, and have you seen the pricing?!? That's yet one more market being disrupted by Apple, bringing prices down to consumer-friendly rates.

What are you taking about? The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched 2 months after the A16, how did Qualcomm copy satellite connectivity in 2 months? And where did they mock Apple? Will they mock apple first about it before copying?
As long as you have at least a minimal level of satellite connectivity, which is far from everywhere in particular if you have to rely on a small antenna. I agree that it adds to the global coverage, but it still does not make miracles.Good. Satellite connectivity can be a lifesaver. The more smartphones with that feature, the better.
Wow, Apple finally did something first.
Most current radio chips can do some satellite communication, this is mostly a question of drivers and antenna (and antenna adaptation). What are you taking about? The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched 2 months after the A16, how did Qualcomm copy satellite connectivity in 2 months? And where did they mock Apple?
The phones are expensive for what's basically a late '90s cellphone, and the plans are insanely expensive. $64.99/mo (Iridium) for ten minutes? You mean how like Apple copied: https://satellitephonestore.com/
Being honest is being negative?Half a loaf better than none. Won’t affect people who use iPhones. No point being negative.
True, but I'll bet Iridium won't just give that bandwidth away. $$$if it will work in non emergency situations this is an awesome feature
Since it's the same company who makes it for Apple then I guess Apple's implementation is a "gimmick" from the same "pathetic company" also?Being honest is being negative?
Which one is superior is irrelevant as Apple is implanting this functionality in hundreds of millions of iphones. If you are in the 1% or the 1% who is in the remotest of the remote than don't rely on your iphone, get another device. But for the rest of us, the iphone 14 should be more than sufficient should that type of communication be needed.Iridium is actually superior to Apple's partner. Iridium is the de facto only option for marine and remote travel needs. It specializes in mobile sat connections. Iridium GO is ubiquitous in the sailing and ychating community. It's good for Iridium as well because SpaceX's StarLink is slowly taking over that market segment for much faster service and much lower cost.

It isn't the same. Read the previous comments. Different satellite provider.Since it's the same company who makes it for Apple then I guess Apple's implementation is a "gimmick" from the same "pathetic company" also?
What does your attempt at deflection have to do with with the discussion at hand? That industry still uses "Steve Balmer" phones, and have you seen the pricing?!? That's yet one more market being disrupted by Apple, bringing prices down to consumer-friendly rates.
You don't know Apple's history.
Look at the precursor to Siri... from 35 years ago.
I guess it was unclear from the poster's comment if he meant Qualcomm or the satellite provider. It isn't the same. Read the previous comments. Different satellite provider.
Looks like the SD flagships will have the better system, at least the S23 will.
In the demo video, did you see the guy shake his head after connecting? He is obviously frustrated by the experience of using the S23 satellite feature, and he's paid to demonstrate it! 🤣
