What are you taking about? The Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 was launched 2 months after the A16, how did Qualcomm copy satellite connectivity in 2 months? And where did they mock Apple?
Most current radio chips can do some satellite communication, this is mostly a question of drivers and antenna (and antenna adaptation).

Some pretty hilarious comments!
All I can say is "Of course they are"...

Happy new year year everyone.

Iridium is actually superior to Apple's partner. Iridium is the de facto only option for marine and remote travel needs. It specializes in mobile sat connections. Iridium GO is ubiquitous in the sailing and ychating community. It's good for Iridium as well because SpaceX's StarLink is slowly taking over that market segment for much faster service and much lower cost.
Which one is superior is irrelevant as Apple is implanting this functionality in hundreds of millions of iphones. If you are in the 1% or the 1% who is in the remotest of the remote than don't rely on your iphone, get another device. But for the rest of us, the iphone 14 should be more than sufficient should that type of communication be needed.

You mean how like Apple copied: https://satellitephonestore.com/

I would say this would be a true statemen if Apple came out with a satellite phone only. Satellite phones are just that, they work via satellite, and the vast majority don't use cellular, hence the price for minutes etc. And most if not all are used in emergency situations (not all but the vast majority), which is what Apple is using it for. So the fact they are coping the "emergency" only option absolutely they are coping and I am glad they are doing so. But then again, I don't care which or what cell phone has it, as long as they do.

Satellite phones have been around for quite a while, as we have been using them since the late 90's and imagine they were around before that.

Since it's the same company who makes it for Apple then I guess Apple's implementation is a "gimmick" from the same "pathetic company" also?
It isn't the same. Read the previous comments. Different satellite provider.

That industry still uses "Steve Balmer" phones, and have you seen the pricing?!? That's yet one more market being disrupted by Apple, bringing prices down to consumer-friendly rates.
What does your attempt at deflection have to do with with the discussion at hand?

This is a yawner of a feature, but for a certain niche it'll be compelling. This is how mature the market is: everyone is competing for these random niches.

In the demo video, did you see the guy shake his head after connecting? He is obviously frustrated by the experience of using the S23 satellite feature, and he's paid to demonstrate it! 🤣

It’s not even out yet and you are already drawing conclusions?
How about we let the S23 launch and see just what it can/cannot do.

Be interesting to see what OEMs look to utilize this option.
