FYI, Quanta are also due to produce the $100 laptop, which Jobs offered OS X for.

They are the worlds No: 1 producer of laptop computers (market share).

Hmmm... I'd prefer an iBook if that is true. Asus is better known for good QC, whereas this Quanta, who the heck are they?

As said - Quanta is the world's largest producer of notebook computers.

Although not many U.S. consumers know the name, many own Quanta's products. The company produces systems for Hewlett-Packard, Dell and others. It is engaged in a long-running rivalry with Compal, also based out of Taiwan.

Well it's got the guts of a PC now, so what did you expect? Don't worry about these manufacturers. They're solid. The bottom of the notebooks will now say, "Designed by Apple in California, Assembled in Taiwan by Quanta." LMAO.

I mean, just look at this fine craftsmanship on the AST Ascentia? assembled by Quanta.

Taiwan, China whatever..why would you bother? My iMac was assembled in China, it says on the box with big black letters..it's still an iMac.

Hmm... I think it's not good. PC manufacturers manufacture Macs?

Sorry, it's always been like that...what's the problem with that? Fewer companies have their own factories nowadays...it's all outsourced, and the quality is normally determined by very strict SLAs (service level agreements)...Asustek may have lax contracts with less demanding companies, and very high-standard demands by Apple...it's business as usual.

I think Apple now has only one manufacturing plant in Cork, Ireland, and perhaps one in the US...the rest of them is all kept by outsourced companies. If you have a good SLA and good enforcement/liability package, you are alright...
