PDA vs. Apple's idea

Think about the Powerbook.. when you see one do you call it a powerbook or a laptop? I think Apple does this all the time with common devices, and I am glad that they do, but I still sometimes call my Pismo a laptop, and sometimes a Powerbook..

iPod is a bit different, because the word 'iPod' doesn't really say anything about it's function, whereas 'mp3 player' tells you what it is.

I do think that Apple would not call it a PDA.. if anything, in just referrence to it.

Powerbook vs. laptop
Newton vs. PDA
iPod vs. MP3 player
PowerMac vs. Personal Computer or PC

Yes, each of these things are laptops, or pdas, or mp3 players, but Apple has a pretty good way of getting people to not call them by the ordinary names.. I don't EVER refer to my friend's dell laptop as an 'INSPIRON'.. that never occured to me til now, but Apple has a way of doing that to consumers. I like it.

Jobs said Apple is not going to make a PDA.. but why not make something better!

;)

love your last comment there.

im wonder if it will be branded iwalk or ipad or whatever and then be referred to as something different as well. like m$ and there handdeld computers. they dont call them pda. im wondering if it will be called a tablet or something a little fancier than just pda. but you are right they dont even have to go that far.
