Hey everyone. So I'll be helping a friend upgrade a used 13' MacBook Pro Mid-2012 laptop that he just bought and was wondering about which RAM sticks will be compatible with the computer. I have many options, but the cheapest one I could find in my region are 2 sticks of G.Skill Ripjaws 4GB DDR3 (1600MHz) RAM (8GB in total).

I have done a bit of research and people have said that Macs are selective with their RAMs and that the best manufacturers for such computers are Crucial and OWC, but in my region these sticks of RAM are pretty scarce and expensive. So I would really appreciate it if anyone could confirm the compatibility of the above product and if it isn't compatible, it would be great if someone could suggest the cheapest alternative they could find.

Thanks in advance :)

I've been running Corsair Vengeance RAM in my MBP since 2 months after I bought it, never had a problem. I have the 16 GB kit in my MBP and an equivalent 8 GB kit in my Mac Mini.

The 2012 13" MBP could actually go to 16gb, although it was never sold as such. So depending on your budget you it might not be that much more to go to 16gb. It is still pretty cheap in the US (Crucial has their 16gb kit for $95) so you shouldn't pay more than that (in the US). Don't know your region, but there are other good manufactures too. I've used PNY, Kingston, Micron, Samsung to name a few over the years without any issues.
