I was curious yesterday after watching the battery video on the macbook pro section of the macbook section on the apple store. It said the battery is capable of being recharged 1000 times, and that it will last 5 years. What i dont understand is if i'm recharging my macbook every day (which i am doing at the moment), i will have gone past the 1000 recharges in 3 years not 5.

It is referring to cycles, which is a full discharge + charge. I have had my macbook for 2 years and it has only been cycled 130 times.

+1. OP, the cycle is a full discharge/recharge. I charge everyday (if not twice) . I have had mine for 10 months and I am at 204 cycles.

My cycle count is at 303, for a 10 month battery. Considering I leave it plugged in most of the time, that puts me at well over a cycle per day for the times I'm mobile.

Since I have an e2008 MBP, my batt probably won't last much longer, but at least it's easily replaceable.

You can charge/discharge your battery as many times as you want. The 1000 recharges/5 years refers to the number of battery cycles ( = 1 full discharge and recharge) you can expect the battery to hold 80% of its original capacity (since battery capacity decreases over time and with use).

I am at 102 cycles after 14 months. I guess it depends on what you do. I am a college student so I use my laptop for all of my classes but the battery doesn't ever get run down fully during class.
