This has been going on for me with my iPhone 5s and now with my iPhone 6. It keeps wanting to update the same apps over and over again. It did it today to 5 apps twice. App store shows there is updates, you click updates, and all the update buttons change to Open but the update notification badge doesn't go away. It will only go away by turning it off or hurrying through the update section and clicking update all before the buttons all change to Open.

Does that make sense? Is anyone else having this issue?

Is it always the same apps causing the issues?

If so you can try deleting them off the phone and then re-downloading them to see if it stops the issue.

It is all the same apps. It's even newly downloaded apps doing it. The new Game of Thrones game is even doing it, and redownloading 700+ MB is annoying. But I have tried deleting and re-adding, at least some of the others ones. Don't want to do GoT cause I don't want to lose my saved game data.

Try restartibg your phone.. And keep auto update on for a day.. See again whether they still keep updating over.. It'll stop maybe, not sure.. Or as said, if it's happening only to s specefic section of apps, redownload them...

I deleted and re downloaded the ones causing the issue and they seemed to have stopped for now. I did lose my saved game, but I wanted to play it on the iPad anyway.

That happened to me a few times. That's a server bug from their side. It happened to a few of my apps, just wait a few hours and it will pass. Yesterday my Kingdom Rush Origins app on my iPhone kept asking me to update, when I already did.

I've had the same problem since around the time iOS 8 came out. I thought it was an iOS 8 bug, but then it started happening in devices that weren't updated to iOS 8, so maybe it's an issue with the iTunes update that came out then.

What I have experienced is this:
-If I update apps on iTunes and sync the device, the update badge on the device will still show the apps as needing to be updated, but under "Available Updates" it says "Open," not "Update."
-The badge will persist until there's another round of apps requiring updates, but then it just replaces those updates with the new ones.
-If I download the app updates on the device itself, none of that happens. But that's not ideal because I would prefer just downloading an update once on iTunes if it will need to be installed on several devices.

I have tried a lot of things - rebooting the phone, switching to AutoUpdate for a while, restoring device from backup, erasing device and setting up as new, and probably other things I'm forgetting. This predated Yosemite, but upgrading to Yosemite didn't help.

I'd love to hear it if anyone has a solution. It's an annoying bug.
