Question about audio jack on the iMac

Hi All,

On the back of my computer, I have my headphone jack, and the jack next to it which I've read to be an audio in jack. I have my headphones plugged into my headphone jack, but when I plug my iPhone into that audio jack (i have one of those stereo to stereo cables) to listen through my headphones, I can't hear anything. Is there something that I need to enable in order for this to work?

Something like an app called "LineIn" should do it. It will allow passthrough of audio in to audio out.
