Question about backlight keyboard

I'm trying to decide between the 2.0 and 2.4 macbook and i'm leaning towards the 2.4 since you get a 20% speed boost, bigger HD, and backlight keyboard. However, I'm wondering if you can disable it in certain situations? For instance, if on a plane and you do not want the keyboard lit up, is there a way to disable it even if the area is dimly lit?

Yes you can disable the backlight for the keyboard.

You can control the level of the backlighting, including turning it off, using the function keys.
