Question about battery and scratches

Well my MacBook Pro comes Friday, and I have a question. Well, this computer is a desktop replacement, so it will spend most of its time on the desk. If I leave it on for long periods of time plugged in, is it better to keep the battery in, or should I take it out?

Also how easily does the aluminum on the MBP scratch?

Leave the battery in. Calibrate it at least once a month. It doesn't scratch, unless you drag sharp objects across it.

How do I calibrate it?

Also for the iLife 09 upgrade thing, How does Apple tell if the mac was bought after January 6? I bought mine from eBay new in box on January 11, is it possible that I would/could possibly qualify for the offer?

It may seem like a dumb question, but I see 2 audio wires and I'm wondering if that wouldn't work because the MBP only has one audio port.

One is for the headphone jack, the other for the microphone jack. It will work.
