question about Buying an Iphone 4 without contract

ok so in the next few days im gonna go but an iphone 4 16 gb to the apple store for the price of 599 now that you can unlocked it, but my question is that if i buy it without contract how do i activate it to use it with itunes and etc

I've heard commitment free purchases don't come with a SIM, so use any other AT&T SIM to activate with. If that phone is on 4.0.2 you are screwed.

well , the update just came yesteday so i dont think the iphones at the stores going to have the new update for a 1-2 weeks
