    MacBook Pro: memory, hard drive
iMac: memory, hard drive, (possibly) graphics card
Mac Pro: memory, hard drive, graphics card, (possibly) processor

Generally speaking, Macs aren't designed to be purchased cheap and then upgraded. You buy what you need. The upgrades are for later, and most of 'em will void your warranty if you do them yourself.

If your brother wants to buy a PC, let him buy a PC.
