Hi guys, I have watched the MM demos and the info on the website but I'm still a little confused about the email service. Can anyone shed a little light on how the email works for MM.

I have a university email address which is my primary email and I want to keep using this. Can MM sync my university account in mail.app (i use imap currently) to the cloud. I have a webmail interface for my university email but its awful to use which is why i use mail.app. I'm getting an iphone in a couple of months but as the MM is a 60 day free trial I thought I'd get a headstart. So when I get an iphone can MM sync my university account between iphone and mac. i.e. can I pick up my university email on my iphone and then have all the folders sync to my mac for when I'm at work on my mac?

I'm not sure what I will do with @me.com address or am I missing the point? Do I have to use this address?

Just wanted to hear some real world stories that are not about GMail.

And lastly, is their anyone out there using MM on Tiger? I know it doesn't sync as quickly as leopard; is that the only problem?

    Thanks,
    John
p.s. I'm aware of all the reported issues but I'll give the free trial a try

Is the university email hosted on an Exchange server?

If your university email uses IMAP, then you will see all the folders on both mail.app and the iPhone - and you wont need MobileMe.

MobileMe does not keep email accounts other than @me.com on the cloud, so you would not be able to see your university email by going to www.me.com

I'm not sure. I had to read about what an exchange server was , but there is no mention of this on my university's IT website. They like to do things there own way and I know they have their own servers. I've been doing a bit of research and apparently they do not support push email.
However, I could set my university account to automatically forward to my MM email address. This might make things more simple. Although I would not be able to email from my university address this way?? AARGGHH this is hurting my brain.
Why do things that are supposed to make life easier for you often end up having the reverse effect;)

AAhhh. This makes thing very different. Thanks for that. So unless you want to use @me.com email address, MM is pointless (for email).
My uni do use IMAP which i have set up in mail.app. I guess when i get my ipnone I'll just set up the uni account on my iphone then physically sync it via iTunes (is that correct?) to sync with mail.app. Or navigate to the university webmail in safari (not sure if it will load up ok though).

No, just set up your uni account on the iPhone using IMAP, the iPhone will then connect to your uni's IMAP server and you'll see all your mail folders.

As IMAP keeps everything on the server, your Mac and your iPhone will always show the same thing as they are both synced to the IMAP server. You don't have to manually sync them with each other.

Wonderful that seems simple. Thanks for the "swift" replies :D

I'll stop trying to shoehorn MM into my life.
