Question about en-dashes in NeoOffice

I'm having trouble figuring out how to convert double-hyphens automatically into en-dashes or em-dashes in NeoOffice. LibreOffice can do it during the spelling & grammar check, but I don't even see a way to access or modify the spelling/grammar options in NeoOffice. The Auto-correct option seems to permit this, but it never actually makes the changes once I request this substitution. And it really seems like there ought to be a preference for making this change automatically, instead of from inside a document....

Can anybody help me with this?
