Hi i have a few questions. the threads are really long, and i'm kinda rushing at work so i dont have the time to really go searching and looking through long threads.

Ok, here's my situation. i have a ppc desktop, and a pc laptop. i dont get wifi at home, but if i step outside theres an open network that i can pick up. so, i can take the laptop outside picking up wifi with the ipod plugged in, but not with the ppc desktop.

1. which is easier/nicer/best: touchfree or ijailbreak?

2. say i chose ijailbreak, could i go outside to get wifi for the tiff exploit part, come back in and carry on jailbreaking on the ppc mac without wifi?

3. assuming i did so if possible, if i put installer on it, i assume i'd need wifi to get the apps. can i go outside and download apps and install them without being connected to the mac, or do i need wifi + connection to mac to install apps?

so yeah, basically if i chose the mac jailbreak i could have both wifi and usb connection, just never at the same time. will it be possible to alternate between the two to jailbreak and install apps?

thanks

You will need a wifi connection for the later jailbreaking steps. Wifi is the method of communication to your iPod Touch; not via usb. But I think you can create a wireless ad-hoc between your pc laptop and your iPod Touch and do the jailbreaking.

Use touchFree on your laptop.

You need WiFi not only for the TIFF exploit, but also any ssh sessions you will need during and/or after the jailbreak. You might as well do the whole thing outside, it doesn't take very long.

Jailbreaking occurs on the iPod itself, it doesn't matter what OS you're ssh-ing in from. It would just be the client from which you enter commands directly on the iPod.

After you're done, the only issue you'll have is which computer (if not both) contains the mp3's you want to sync iTunes with. You'll need a WiFi connection for your iPod to run Installer, it has nothing to do with your Mac or PC.

what, so if i run it with touchfree i'll have to sync all my music and video from the pc? its all quite confusing for me.

if you share your wifi connection, even if its not plugged into an ethernet cord, you can still ssh into the ipod...

it gives you an ip address of 10.0.2.22 or .23 i believe.

I log into my ipod all the time from work w/o the laptop having access to the internet.

The IP address will change with what network you are on. :p

The beauty of touchFree is you only need to use the WiFi once when you run the tiff exploit from your iPod, you dont need SSH to do the jailbreak at all. So just go outside with your iPod, run the exploit, plug it in to your computer inside and let touchFree do its work.

ok i think i'm gonna go with touchfree. however, i've read that some people can't sync with itunes back on the mac after jailbreaking with touchfree on pc. is that right? if i use touchfree will i have to start using the pc to sync with itunes?

 Are you saying that you can get a wifi connection for your iPod by plugging in your laptop to an ethernet and then telling it to share/open? Not clear at lall to me....

That would be weird...

PC or Mac? Jailbreak is a procedure that happens in your iPod internally. PC or Mac is just where you're coming from to get inside the iPod.

Ask yourself this: If you sign up for a hotmail account on your friend Joe's computer, does that mean you absolutely must use Joe's computer just to use hotmail for the rest of your life?

People that can't sync or have other problems after jailbreak did it wrong. If you're this worried and keep asking the simplest of questions (that can be easily found through search), just don't jailbreak and get over it.
