I recently purchased a late 2013 15" rMBP, I want to install Windows 8.1 but do not own a external disk drive for the windows disk. Am I able to use my old 15" MBP late 2010 to build the flash drive since it has a optical drive if I plan on using bootcamp? Thanks for the help.

You can use your 2010 MBP to create an .iso image of the Windows install DVD, then copy that file to your rMBP and point Boot Camp Assist to that.
