    Hello folks,

I've been looking all over the web for a straight answer to this question but haven't been able to find one that's very clear.

I have a new iPhone 4 and I am curious about the built in Compass app and the available GPS applications such as Navigon.

Will using the Compass app or a 3rd party GPS app (Navigon in particular) consume my 3G data plan? I know that Navigon stores all its maps on the phone so there is no need for it to constantly download map data like the default google maps application does. I just don't want to get dinged because its actually using A-GPS and pinging cell towers via 3G rather than just straight GPS.

Appreciate any help, and sorry if this has been asked before. Like I said I haven't been able to find a straight forward answer by searching the internet.

Dear god, i am so sick of this misconception. We need a sticky for this!

Assisted GPS DOES NOT USE DATA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It uses cell tower triangulation to pin point the location WHILE the gps is acquiring satellites.
