Question about iPhone 4S purchase online

Can you walk into an Apple retail store and return an iPhone you purchased online and had shipped to your house?

I really do not want to go thru the process of shipping this iPhone 4s in and waiting for my money?

I tried to take a 16GB 4S in to the apple store and swap it out for a 32GB model. But since I ordered it from Apple.com and had it shipped to my house they wouldn't do it. They said I had to mail it back and then I can rebuy whatever model I want.

THat was my fear, but this year Apple did not give us the chance to reserve a 4S and have it go to the local Apple store?

That process takes like a week to 10 days to get the refund, and get the Upgrade back on my AT&T account ugh, thanks for the info though.
